There are a few specifics you must get right if you want to host a karaoke night using your home theatre system. At first, glance, using the screen for free karaoke videos on YouTube and running the mics through your soundbar for karaoke appears to be the ideal solution, but when you try to connect everything, it becomes clear that there may be another step.
Disconnect The Soundbar From The Audio Source
In general operation, your soundbar receives audio input from your television. Sometimes the audio comes directly to the soundbar from another device, such as an Xbox or laptop that is connected via HDMI. In any case, you must identify the audio source you wish to use and disconnect it from the soundbar.
Connect Your TV With Karaoke
Now, plug the cable you just detached from the soundbar from the television (or another audio source if you’re using HDMI ARC) into the “audio in” port on the back of your karaoke mixer.
Connect Karaoke To Soundbar
You should be fairly familiar with the ports on your karaoke mixer at this point. There will be an “audio-in” option used in the previous step, as well as an “audio-out” port to use now. Locate the audio-out port and connect the karaoke mixer to your soundbar for karaoke.
Connect Mic To Karaoke
Now that the mixer is properly routing audio from your t.v or video source to the soundbar, we can move on to the microphone. You can use multiple microphones for duets or just one, but they will all connect the same way: through the karaoke mixer.
Test Run
Now that everything is in place, you can put the system to the test. First, turn on your TV (or whichever video source you’re using) and check that sound is coming out of the soundbar.
